The trend of LCD is over! Apple is developing a 13.4-inch MacBook Air: equipped with an OLED screen!
Ross Young, CEO of screen supply chain consulting company DSCC, stated that Apple is developing a 13.4-inch MacBook Air equipped with OLED panels. This news is basically consistent with the Korean media The Elec earlier.
Currently, Apple has a strong interest in OLED panels, but it also believes that the current supply chain for OLED screens does not seem to meet the demand. Therefore, Apple hopes to continue optimizing its supply chain by providing high-quality OLED panels for mobile devices such as iPad Pro, and improving display performance.
At present, Apple plans to be the first to install OLED panels on the 2024 iPad Pro and MacBook Air, and more high-end MacBook Pro laptops will be equipped with OLED panels by 2026.
Currently, Apple MacBook laptops mostly use LCD panels, while OLED panels have significant advantages in contrast and brightness. If nothing unexpected, the new generation of MacBook Air laptops will be equipped with Apple's M3 series processors, significantly improving computational performance compared to the M2 processor. As for the price, there should not be too much change.
To be honest, the biggest concern for OLEDs may be screen burning and power consumption issues, as mobile phone screens often move, but computer screens are more likely to remain static. With the advantages of lightweight and color expression, the popularization of OLED in the computer field has become a trend.
