86000 people applied for compensation of up to $395, and the Apple MacBook Butterfly Keyboard settlement was finally approved
On May 27th, according to Reuters, a US judge approved Apple's $50 million class action settlement on Thursday, providing compensation to consumers affected by MacBook butterfly keyboards, and rejecting Apple's challenge to the settlement.
District Judge Edward Davila of the San Jose Federal Court in California stated in his ruling that the settlement is "fair, sufficient, and reasonable".
The main plaintiffs are 11 consumers from New York, Florida, California, Michigan, and several other states, representing national MacBook users in a class action lawsuit against Apple, accusing Apple of not providing sufficient repair and troubleshooting assistance with the MacBook butterfly keyboard launched between 2015 and 2019.
Users will compensate in stages. The first batch obtained were users who had repaired butterfly keyboards twice within 4 years of purchasing MacBook; The second batch is users who have repaired their keyboards once; The next step is for users who have replaced their keyboards.
The compensation amount that each person can receive varies, and if the entire butterfly keyboard is replaced more than twice, a maximum of $395 can be obtained.
According to the announcement released today, over 86000 people have submitted claims. There is currently no news on when to start making official payments to affected members
