TechInsights: The estimated global smartphone shipment volume for 2023 has been lowered to 1.16 billion units, a year-on-year decrease of 2.8%
On June 7th, according to the official WeChat account of TechInsights, a forecast report shows that global smartphone shipments will continue to contract in 2023. Compared to the version released in March 2023, TechInsights will reduce its smartphone shipments for the entire year of 2023 from 1.1881 billion to 1.16 billion units, a decrease of 2.8% year-on-year from 1.2 billion units in 2022. After the reopening of the Chinese market, there are mixed emotions, and the ongoing geopolitical tensions and macroeconomic headwinds will continue to drag down the global smartphone market in 2023 and 2024.
A new report states that smartphone shipments in all regions except Africa and the Middle East have decreased in 2023. The Asia Pacific region accounted for the largest share (a decrease of 10.5 million units between the two versions), mainly due to mixed demand after China's reopening, long-term geopolitical tensions, and macroeconomic uncertainty.
At the same time, due to the protracted conflict between Russia-Ukraine conflict, TechInsights also lowered its smartphone shipment forecast for Central and Eastern Europe in 2023, from 67.3 million in March to 59.2 million.
In addition, due to unfavorable macroeconomic factors, the shipment volume of smartphones in North America in 2023 has been reduced by 5.6 million from the March forecast of 130.7 million units to 125.1 million units. The adjustment range for Western Europe and Central Latin America remains moderate between the two versions.
Taking into account the controllable earthquake impact in Türkiye and the slow growth of food prices in 2023 (compared with 2022), TechInsights raised the forecast value of Africa and the Middle East in the latest forecast, from the estimated 132.4 million in March to 2.6 million to 135 million.
Considering the aforementioned unfavorable factors and uncertainties, TechInsights has also lowered its global smartphone shipment forecast for 2024 (from 1228.5 million units in the previous version to 11211.4 million units in the latest version).
TechInsights predicts that Samsung and Apple will continue to lead the global smartphone market, closely followed by Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, OPPO (including OnePlus), vivo, Chuanyin, Honor, Realme, Lenovo Motorola, and Huawei. The brands beyond the top ten, Google Pixel phones and Nokia HDM phones, are expected to maintain stable growth in the next two years.
