Support for DirectX 12, Apple releases new tool: can simulate running Win10 and Win11 games on macOS
On June 7th, Apple directly mentioned how to simulate games running Win10 and Win11 systems in the macOS system during a schedule held during WWDC 2023, and listed "instructions and Direct3D conversion types" and other key details.
In this event, Apple will build a new environment on the macOS platform, introduce Metal Shader Converter and Metal debugging tools, further tap into the potential performance of the game, and reduce the amount of upfront work that may take several months.
After developer Andrew Tsai conducted in-depth research and checked the relevant source code, it was basically confirmed that the simulation tool is actually a modified version of Wine based on CrossOver 21.1.1.
Tsai also demonstrated the effect of simulating running Windows games on the macOS platform, which should run under Rosetta 2 and be able to render games using DirectX 12.
Prior to the opening of the WWDC 2023 Developer Conference, development company CodeWeavers announced that CrossOver will support Microsoft DirectX 12 this summer, which is good news for game players.
CrossOver is a Windows emulator suitable for macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS, developed based on Wine, which allows these systems to run Windows applications locally.
