Replacement of 13 inch MacBook Air A2337 display screen in the second half of 2020
Step 1: Unscrew the screws that secure the bottom shell
- Before starting this process, you should disable the automatic restart feature of the Mac. When opening the lid, the automatic restart function on the Mac will open and may accidentally trigger during the disassembly process. Use this guide to disable automatic restart.
- If your MacBook is running Big Sur v11.1 or later, disabling automatic restart may not work. You can proceed normally, but please make sure to disconnect the battery immediately after entering it.
- Before starting, please completely turn off the power and unplug the MacBook. Close the display screen and flip the entire laptop upside down.
- Use the P5 drive to remove the following screws:
- Two 7.9mm screws
- Two 7.3 mm screws
- Six 2.6mm screws
- During the entire repair process, please pay close attention to each screw and ensure that it is completely returned from its original position to avoid damaging the MacBook.
Step 2 Remove the bottom shell
- Insert your fingers between the display screen and the bottom shell, and then pull upwards to eject the bottom shell.
- Remove the bottom shell.
- To reinstall the bottom shell:
- Install it in place and press firmly to engage the two hidden clips below. You should feel and hear them snap into place.
Step 3: Disconnect the battery
- Use the flat end of the pry bar to pry up and release the metal locking arm on the battery interface.
- Before lifting the battery connector, make sure that the metal arm is completely free from the locking tab. The metal locking arm should be easily unlocked.
- Lift the metal locking arm vertically upwards to remove the battery connector from the slot on the motherboard.
- During reassembly, press the battery interface vertically downwards into its slot, ensuring that it is placed flush within the slot.
Step 4: Disconnect the antenna cable
- Use a T3 Torx to remove the 1.4mm screw that secures the antenna cable cover.
- If you feel a bit loose when using a T3 screwdriver, you can try using a T4 screwdriver.
Step 5
- Remove the antenna cable cover.
Step 6
- Use tweezers to clamp the antenna interface close to the base.
- Pull straight up to disconnect the cable.
- Repeat the second antenna cable.
Step 7: Disconnect the display cable
- Use a T3 Torx to remove the two 1.5mm screws that secure the display cable connector cover.
Step 8
- Remove the display cable interface cover.
Step 9
- Use the flat end of the pry bar to pry up the display cable interface and disconnect it directly from the antenna board.
- To reconnect the interface, carefully align one side and press it in place before handling the other side. Do not press directly from the middle. If the interface is not aligned, it may cause permanent damage to the bent pins.
Step 10 Remove the antenna strip screws
- Use T5 Torx to remove the six screws that fix the antenna rod:
- Four 7.4mm silver screws
- Two 4.7mm black screws
Step 11 Remove the antenna strip
- Insert the tip of the pry bar into the gap between the antenna strip and the display hinge.
- Rotate the crowbar onto the hinge and pry up the end of the skyline.
- Repeat the other end of the antenna strip.
Step 12
- Pry the skyline straight up with your fingers, keeping it away from the shell.
- The antenna strip is fixed with a little adhesive and may require some force to move.
- Pass the antenna board through the opening in the middle of the antenna pole.
- Be careful not to apply any tension to the ribbon cable of the antenna strip.
- Remove the antenna strip.
Step 13 Remove the four hinge screws
- Use a T8 Phillips screwdriver to remove 2 5.0mm screws (a total of 4 screws) from each hinge.
- Each hinge has a third central screw, and you should now fix it in place.
Step 14: Fully open MacBook
- With the MacBook screen facing down, carefully lift the upper cover up to open the MacBook as much as possible.
Step 15 Remove the remaining two hinge screws
- Lift the MacBook and place it on its side, with the display screen facing away from you.
Step 16
- Use a T8 Phillips screwdriver to remove the remaining two 5.0mm screws that secure the display screen, one on each hinge.
- After unscrewing these screws, the display screen will no longer be connected to the upper housing. Maintain stability in both halves.
Step 17 Remove the display screen
- Carefully start turning off the monitor until it is at a 90 degree angle to the upper shell.
- When the monitor moves towards the chassis, the hinge should be slightly pulled out of the chassis.
- Place the display screen at a 90 degree angle to the casing, remove the display screen from the casing while keeping the casing stationary to slide the hinge out of the bottom of the casing.
- Remove the display screen.
- After installing a new display screen, the MacBook may need to be plugged in to start for the first time.
